The Obligatory Valentine's Day Present

What will I do?
What can I give?
I'm just a poor codger
A hard-workin' spiv

I don't have no money
(Though plenty of time)
But I'm not gifted to labour
For my dear Valentine

If my heart's state
Was perfume sweet
'T’would be enough
To whisk her from her feet

If my weak lungs
Could gasp noted breath
I would sing of my love
Until my sure death

If my brain's thinking
Moved to the sublime
Ah, what lovely thoughts
Would cover my valentine

But alas! alack!
I have nothing to give
Will she accept just the love
Of a hard-working spiv?

(To Suzanne for Valentine’s Day)
